Tamil Nadu Organic Certification Department
(TNOCD), India.
Department of Organic Certification, Tamil Nadu, India,
is a certification body for organic production which
was established as a Government Department on 17 of
May 2007; it has its head office at Coimbatore in
Tamil Nadu State, India.
The main aim of the organisation is to promote all
activities related to inspection and certification
of the organic agricultural sector in accordance with
NPOP norms and imparting training.
Tamil Nadu Department of Organic Certification (TNOCD)
is newly established organic certification body and
is accredited by APEDA, New Delhi, Ministry of Commerce
and Industry, Government of India. The Accreditation
number is NPOP/NAB/0019.
Structurally Department of Organic Certification,
Tamil Nadu consists of a head office where 12 staff
are responsible for overall administration, technical
issues, information services and liaison with government
and other sector bodies. Four regional offices manage
inspection and information flow at local level.
Mr. A. Karmugilan B.sc.(Ag.), Director of the Department
is stationed at Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. Day to day
work is overseen by the Quality Manager Mr. A. Gopal and inspection work is organised by
the Evaluator Mr.
A.B. Rafiulla. All Organic Certification
Inspectors (OCI) are department staff. Mr. D.Emmanuel Raaja, OCI1, Dr. M.Gopalakrishnan, OCI2, look after all technical matters in the directorate.
Mr. K. Srinivasan, OCI, is stationed at Coimbatore having jurisdiction
of western Tamil Nadu districts, Mr. R.Meenakshisundaram, OCI
is stationed at Trichy having jurisdiction of Eastern
Tamil Nadu Districts, Mr. K.Arumugam OCI is stationed
at Madurai having jurisdiction of Southern Districts
of Tamil Nadu and Mr. V.Sathiyamoorthi looks after
Northern Districts of Tamil Nadu.
All certification decisions are overseen by a central
Certification Committee which is made up of a range
of representatives of the organic sector. The Certification Committee also acts as
the stakeholder body of the organisation in terms
of overseeing and review of policy and effective implementation
of the quality system.
Department of Organic Certification, Tamil Nadu have a programme of registering operators
for crop production, animal husbandry, food processing, organic input manufacturing unit, trade and export.
